HURDY GURDY Demonstrated & played by Matthias Loibner

Matthias Loibner is one of the world’s leading hurdy gurdy players. In 2011 Matthias appeared in a live studio session on BBC Radio 3’s World on 3 with Lopa Kothari. He plays hurdy-gurdy in an unheard-of way. He treats his instrument tenderly or relentlessly and oscillates between nearly forgotten and newly found sounds - from ancient music to experimental dancefloor in solo-concerts, in a duo “AjvarSterz“ with Bosnian singer Natasa Mirkovic-DeRo and “FIDIBUS“ with Austrian quarter-tone trumpet player Franz Hautzinger) and in orchestras. He also plays with Ross Daly, deishovida and with Christophe Coin and Ensemble Baroque de Limoges he is performing the very rare Instrument Lira Organizzata, a special reconstruction.
