White House Coordinator Kirby on “Thousands of North Korean Troops on Russia’s Side“: “We estimate that since early to mid-October, North Korea has sent at least 3,000 troops to eastern Russia. We estimate that these soldiers traveled by ship from North Korea to Vladivostok. And then they traveled on to multiple Russian military training bases in eastern Russia, where they are currently undergoing training. We don’t yet know whether these soldiers will be fighting alongside Russian troops. But that possibility is certainly of great concern. Once these soldiers complete their training, they could travel to western Russia and engage in combat against the Ukrainian Armed Forces. We have briefed the Ukrainian government on our view of this situation, and of course we are consulting closely with other allies, partners, and regional countries about the implications of such a dramatic move and how we might respond.
