Don Haddad: Andante Maestoso for contrabass clarinet and piano. Marco Antonio Mazzini

Don Haddad ( 1935 - 2017 ) was a fantastic composer and a horn player. I discovered his music while listening to tuba music. His “Suite for tuba“ composed in 1970 it’s a energetic piece with beautiful melodies surrounded with very creative harmony. This piece is perfect to play with the contrabass clarinet, not only for the range but for the demand of control with the instrument. The Allegro Maestoso has beautiful lines that shows the singing possibilities of the contrabass clarinet. I perform this first movement of the Suite together with Malika Baimagambetova, an amazing pianist who has a wonderful channel with lots of piano parts to play along.
