A Papier-Mache Novelty (1922)

Suggestions for Christmas presents: intertitle asks: “Begun to think of Christmas presents? Then don’t throw away your scraps of brown paper. They will make delightful little boxes and trays for another Eve’s dressing table“. A woman pours water into a bowl from a large jug. She then tears brown paper and places it into the bowl which contains a mixture of flour and water. C/U of woman making the paste. The paper is placed on the inside of a mould and glue is applied with the fingers. The woman cuts off the excess paper around the top of the mould. The papier-mâché bowl is placed on top of the stove to dry off in the heat from the cooker. C/U of woman taking the bowl out of the mould. Sandpaper is used to smooth the bowl’s edges. A knob is applied to the bowl as it is to form a lid. The woman decorates the bowl by painting it.
