Kinetic art of flying bird

Turn orange crank shaft to make the bird fly. Two brown elastic rods fixed to the base (acting as flat springs) have revolution joints with green wings. The green wings also have revolution joints with the bird body block consisting of head, body, legs and tail. The blue conrod is fixed to the bird body block. So it is a planar mechanism that has 4 movable links and 4 revolution joints. The elastic rods ensure the mechanism motion stable. Gruebler’s equation can not be applied here for DOF calculation of the mechanism because of these elastic links. The bird motion looks lively because beside the wing flapping, the bird body also moves up/down. The video was made based on: Inventor files of this video:
