Summer 1997, Magic Johnson’s midsummer night’s all-star game and one of the greatest dunk contests happened that has never been seen unless you were in the building. Dunk Contest included Kobe Bryant, TMac (before he ever played an NBA game), Brent Barry, Michael Finley, Jerry Stackhouse, Penny Hardaway, Stephon Marbury, Ray Allen & Charles O’Bannon.. Also, let’s address this asap. Vince Carter did NOT steal this dunk from Kobe. The elbow dunk goes back on film back to as far back as 1986 with Roy Hinson. Barry Hardy, James Wilson deserve some love there too. Also, Kobe & Vince played AAU together. Tim Thomas said Vince use to stick his arm in the rim during warm ups. There’s actually a news article from 95 with Vince’s HS Coach talking about to as well. Vince innovated the reverse 360 windmill and many other things. VC disrespect will not be tolerated. Big rare stuff: Steph, Penny & Ray Allen just being in a dunk contest (Ray was in the 97 contest against Kobe) Big big rare: Kobe’s elbow hang 3 years before Vince on the big stage & lob Eastbay that he missed in the NBA contest a few months earlier TMac: Not being in the league showing out spinning the opposite way of his usual 360’s with a cuff 360 windmill.
