JAN DISMAS ZELENKA (1679-1745)
“SALVE REGINA“ IN d MINOR. 1724. (Zwv 139) ; 2OB.; 2VN.;B.C.:
Zelenka’s 1724 setting of the Marian prayer “Salve Regina“, normally called an antiphon
when used in a liturgical context, is his second of probably only two that were written
for a solo voice (in addition 4 chorus-settings survive). The first solo work, a “Salve Regina“ (Zwv 204) from 1719 for solo soprano, was later elaborated with a richer
instrumentation as Zwv 135, in 1730. This 1730 composition is the only one that has been officially recorded - so far.
Zwv 139’s more simple dialogue here between bass voice and violin is spirituall
