Glass artist Jason Mouer demonstrates a Prince Rupert’s Drop to University of Washington students

Professor Jason is teaching new glass students about the physical properties of glass. Here he drops a hot blob of glass into a bucket of cold water, which cools the glass quickly, and gives the glass tremendous compression strength. The glass won’t break when smashed with a hammer, but is decimated when the surface tension is released by cracking the tail with pliers.
