Narcissism vs. Egocentrism (or Egoism)

Egoism (from Latin ego, “I”)—signifying a person’s behaviour such as when he thinks only of his benefit, without considering others—is the driving force in nature and it constantly grows. Narcissism is characterized by an inflated self-image and addiction to fantasy, which in most cases has nothing to do with reality. The disorder is named for the mythological figure Narcissus, who fell in love with his own reflection. Research shows that the level of narcissism among students over the past 25 years has increased by 70% and the level of sympathy toward others has decreased by 40%. According to Kabbalah, the desire to receive is a natural desire, and egoism refers to enjoyment at another’s expense.
