How to leftover filament turn into a beautiful design

Since 3D printing uses plastic as its main material, it is vulnerable in terms of environmental pollution, and some people take this as a problem. The problems that such people say that 3D printing pollutes the environment are as follows.
1. The reel that winds and supplies this plastic material in the form of a thread is called a spool, and although it can be recycled to some extent, it is not well collected and thrown away.
2. When 3D printing is done, numerous scrap filaments are left behind. Since it is difficult to print anything with this small amount of filament, it is easily thrown away.
In order to reduce the first problem, printer material manufacturers have recently started selling filament, which is a material for printing, for refills and increasing it, reducing the amount of spool discarded and improving little by little. However, it is difficult to wind or mount these refill materials on existing spools, and a relatively easy-to-assemble spool is required, which is usually recommended to be printed.
However, the design of the existing spool for the refill material is printed, but there is a problem of consuming a lot of material again.
In addition, there is a problem that the existing spool (diameter of about 20cm) cannot be printed in a small 3D printer.
To improve this problem, I have already designed a folding spool that can be printed with very few materials and even with a very small educational 3D printer, and it has received a great response.
Foldable filament spool for refill filament
To solve the second problem, I created printable designs with small amounts of material. Mostly, they are very small cars with various letters or patterns on the surface. Small text or patterns on the car’s surface can be printed with just a few grams of material. However, this alone could not completely consume the small amount of scrap filaments. Because the small cars can only get the desired result by using materials of designated colors, it was impossible to consume various materials left at random.
So, I decided to print the Foldable spool for refill filament I designed with these numerous leftover filaments. In fact, this filament spool was designed with this in mind when planning the design from the beginning.
In order to do this, you need a 3D printer with a function that automatically pauses the print if the material runs out. Fortunately, most 3D printers have provided this function since several years ago.
In order to obtain aesthetically good results, these small amounts of filaments were collected by subject of color and printed.
As a result, rather than printing in a single color, it looks better to print with scrap filament like this.
With this, I have reborn a small amount of filament that would have been thrown away in a considerable amount into a product with high utilization.
I hope that many manufacturers will also print this Foldale spool to use scrap filament to reduce the waste that can be caused by 3D printing!
