My first entry there, was a 300-kilometer trek in the summer of 2001. Over the following 9 years, I made multiple return treks, twice during the winter. One of my central interests was the isolated monastery life of the Tibetan Buddhist lamas. These holy men live in monasteries that on occasion cling like wasps’ nests to mountain cliffs - many are over 400 years old.
