Medieval Jousting - Hever Castle - The Knights of Royal England
Spectacular Medieval Jousting tournament re-enacted at Hever Castle by The Knights Of Royal England.
A colourful, action-packed spectacle of courage, strength and skill performed by the Knights of Royal England in the events field, in the grounds of the historic and picturesque Hever Castle, in Kent. This film shows highlights from the authentic jousting tournament, combat displays and sword fights.
A thrilling and enjoyable show suitable for all the family, which is held annually, during the summer months.
Transport yourself back in time to the most favourite form of Medieval entertainment, an exciting and colourful pageant where you can watch mounted knights charging towards each other on their destriers, at up to 40 miles per hour, using lances to defeat and hopefully dismount their opponents. Medieval jousting tournaments were the training grounds for Knights of the Middle ages but were also great entertainment for the local people.
The Knights of Royal England are one of the premiere jousting companies in Europe and perform at a number of venues each year, including the annual Jousting Tournament at the beautiful Hever Castle where visitors can witness a spectacular 90 minute display of action, stunts, falls and fights in an authentic arena.
The Knights use the same breed of horses as were used in mediaeval times, which came from Spain and Portugal, Andalusians and Lusitanos. The riding and training of these horses has changed little over the past 7-800 years.
Hever Castle
The castle situated in idyllic countryside has a rich history and formed the backdrop to some of the events that changed the course of Britain’s history. The oldest part of the Castle dates back to 1270 and consisted of the gatehouse and a walled bailey. In the early 1500s the Boleyn family bought the Castle and added a Tudor dwelling within the walls and so it became the childhood home of its most famous inhabitant, Anne Boleyn. Anne became King Henry Vlll’s second wife and Queen of England. Later the castle passed into the ownership of Henry’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. From 1557 onwards the Castle was owned by a number of families until in 1903, William Waldorf Astor restored the Castle and created the gardens and lake, which you can enjoy today.
Hever Castle is located in Hever, near Edenbridge, Kent, England.
