Credit : Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, the Enlightened One, is the founder of Buddhism. The Buddha founded his religion with a sermon entitled “The turning of the Wheel of Law“ to five disciples. From this humble beginning grew a religion that would spread from his native home of India all the way to the Middle Kingdom and beyond. That first sermon contained the core of his philosophy, the Four Noble Truths: The first, the World is full of suffering, the second, suffering is caused by human desire, the third, renunciation of desire is the way to salvation, and the fourth, salvation, Nirvana, is the Eightfold Path. The strictures of the Eightfold Path are difficult for humans and nearly impossible for vampires; the rigors of adhering to the tenets of right knowledge, right aspiration, right speech, right behaviour, right livelihood, right effort, right mindfulness and right meditation require the full, undistracted focus of the mind and body. The Buddha rejected the Brahmin’s emphasis on ritual sacrifice as an unnecessary distraction and likewise rejected the caste system. The wisdom and open nature of his teaching brought him astounding numbers of followers in a very short time, especially for those castes that were repressed or undervalued in the traditional system.
