The fact that Japanese people hardly ever ask “why” for anything. In Japan, the status system was strictly divided during the Edo period (1603-1867), with clear distinctions of who was allowed to do what, live where, and in what clothing, etc. Basically, children inherited their family’s business whether they wanted to or not, and their parents decided whom they would marry. Asking or thinking “why” would only bring misfortune to Japanese people, because there really was no choice. Confucianism was also actively educated during this period, and the idea of always prioritizing elders and superiors became widespread. All of these measures were taken by the Shogunate to control the people and create peace, and some of the culture still exists today.
