In full: Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda Bill passes despite Tory rebellion fears

Rishi Sunak’s Rwanda Bill has passed through the House of Commons despite fears of a Tory rebellion. MPs from five right wing groups agreed they could not support the Bill at second reading on Tuesday evening, giving a green light to mass abstentions. However, they stopped short of agreeing to vote against it and will instead seek to agree amendments with the Government when the Bill goes through its line by line committee scrutiny. If they fail to secure the changes they want to toughen up the legislation, the MPs said they would vote against the Bill at its third reading. The moves were announced by Mark Francois, the chair of the European Research Group (ERG) of Brexiteer MPs, who also chaired the meeting on Tuesday evening.
