He only spent a short time serving his country and decided to leave the Navy after just two years. Although he was born in Jacksonville, Florida, his family moved to Gastonia, North Carolina when he was just 1 and a half years old. Frederick Allen Mayne III was born in 1970, but is now commonly known as Fred Durst. At the age of 12 years old he developed a taste for Hip Hop, Breakdancing and Rap whilst holding the dream of one day becoming a break dancer himself. His early years however would see him at a complete loss. By the time he was in his was 23, he had already notched up a failed marriage, left the navy with no real career prospects and also had a baby daughter that he couldn’t support without a job.
