“Fiddle Nation“ at the Vancouver Olympics Open Ceremonies 2010
Here is the segment at the Vancouver Winter Olympics, Opening Ceremony that spotlights the culture of Canadian Fiddle.
The segment starts with a tune composed by Oliver Schroer and then goes into a medley of 5 tunes composed by Calvin Vollrath musical director of the show, Dave Pierce. The closing tune in the medley is Ward Allen’s “Maple Sugar“. The tunes represnt various styles from across Canada.
The fiddlers in this medley are in order, Andre Brunet (French Canadian), Daniel Lapp (West Coast), Sierra Noble (Metis), Samantha Robichaud (East Coast) April Verch (Prairies). Maple Sugar, played by all represents the Ottawa Valley/Ontario. Calvin is seated in front of the symphony orchestra playing along in all the tunes.
