Finale with English subtitles of Gustav Mahler’s 2nd Symphony Resurrection led by Leonard Bernstein

Since this is one of my all-time favorite pieces, I decided to add English text subtitles / captions to accompany this incredible performance led by conductor Leonard Bernstein of the finale of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 “Resurrection“. Some of the original German text came from a poem written by Friedrich Klopstock called “Die Auferstehung“ and the rest was written by Gustav Mahler himself after he attended a friend’s funeral and “was struck by a lightning of overwhelming inspiration.“ This performance took place in 1973, set in the Romanesque splendor of Ely Cathedral in England with Sheila Armstrong (soprano), Janet Baker (mezzo-soprano), the Edinburgh Festival Chorus and the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Leonard Bernstein. The work was premiered in Berlin in 1895 with the composer himself conducting. Eyewitnesses of the premiere performance wrote that the audience wept and many actually stood up and embraced one another at the end. Please subscribe to the channel while you’re at it. ☺️ 🙌❤️htnf
