Hall effect sensors are non-mechanical switches that respond to the presence of an electrical field. Certain hall effect sensors are unipolar, meaning they will turn on in the presence of a magnet and will turn off when the magnetic field is removed. These also often only respond to one pole of a magnetic field. In this project, Karen uses this helpful characteristic of hall effect sensors to build an electronic To-Do List with chores that turn red when exposed to one side of a magnet, and green when exposed to the other side:
