Над саундтреком работал немецкий композитор Рамин Джавади. Музыка альбома инструментальная, кроме этого есть заглавная тема сериала — Main Title. В 2011 году композитор начинает работу над проектом, который принесет ему мировую известность. Конечно же, это саундтреки к «Игре престолов». Прежде всего надо сказать, что в сериал Рамин Джавади попал случайно. Создатели Игры Престолов уже утвердили английского композитора Стивена Уорбека, обладателя оскара за музыку к фильму «Влюбленный Шекспир». Но, поработав с пилотным эпизодом, Уорбек вышел из проекта. Тогда музыкальный консультант канала НВО посоветовал шоураннерам Рамина Джавади. Послушав его работы, они без лишних разговоров заключили контракт с новым композитором. Неизвестно, почему сбежал предыдущий кандидат, вполне вероятно, что он не выдержал жесткого требования Бенниоффа и Уайсса - никаких флейт и ведущих скрипок в музыке к сериалу, так как они сразу ассоциируются у зрителя с жанром фентези. Также они не хотели, чтобы музыка вызывала ассоциацию со средневековьем - слишком ожидаемо. Нужно было что-то более современное, но при этом подходящее к теме. Сам Рамин Джавади говорит, что ограничения не только не стеснили его, но и наоборот зарядили новыми идеями. Рамин Джавади и его музыка - неотъемлимая и одна из самых важных составляющих «Игры Престолов», без них сериал не получился бы таким грандиозным и эпичным. Видно, что в каждое своё творение композитор вкладывает душу. Рамин Джавади обладает невероятным талантом, каким-то особым музыкальным чутьём, его произведения знают и любят во всём мире, и удивительно, что при всём этом он остаётся скромным человеком, не гордится своей славой и не выставляет на показ личную жизнь. Он просто делает то, что любит, и делает это гениально.
