Tout commence par une amitié de longue date : Jean-Chrétien Bach et Carl-Friedrich Abel, associés à la très mondaine et ancienne soprano Teresa Cornelys, fondent en 1765 à Londres, leur cité d’adoption, la toute première saison de concerts avec souscription. Réservés exclusivement aux abonnés triés sur le volet, ces concerts rassemblaient la crème de la crème de la haute société mondaine et des artistes de l’époque. Recrutés à grands frais dans les plus grandes cours d’Europe, chanteurs lyriques et instrumentistes s’y retrouvaient pour interpréter les œuvres toutes fraîches des deux comparses. De style galant, mêlant traits de virtuosité et simplicité classique, les concerts remportent un succès immédiat sur 17 saisons consécutives ! Nous ne pouvions que saisir l’opportunité de graver tel un “menu gourmet“, un récital de sonates, quatuors, et songs faisant honneur à J.C. Bach, C.F. Abel et leurs contemporains, comme le moins connu J.S. Schröter, virtuose du pianoforte, et le grand maître F.J. Haydn, en lui empruntant un trio de Scots Songs dont l’inspiration folklorique et l’accompagnement raffiné forment une synthèse parfaite du goût de l’époque pour les plaisir exclusifs de la ville mêlés aux réjouissances des parties de campagne. ----------------------------------------- What if music could be savored like an exquisite dish? This is what we propose to you by inviting you, for the time of a listening, in the very select Bach Abel Society. It all began with a long-standing friendship: Johann Christian Bach and Carl-Friedrich Abel, together with the very social and former soprano Teresa Cornelys, founded the very first season of subscription concerts in London, their adopted city, in 1765. Reserved exclusively for hand-picked subscribers, these concerts brought to-gether the cream of the crop of high society and artists of the day. Lyric singers and instrumentalists, recruited at great expense from the greatest courts of Europe, were brought together to interpret the fresh works of the two composers. In a gallant style, mixing virtuosity and classical simplicity, the concerts were an immediate success over 17 consecutive seasons! We could not but seize the opportunity to record like a “gour-met menu“, a recital of sonatas, quartets, and songs honoring J.C. Bach, C.F. Abel and their contemporaries, such as the lesser known J.S. Schröter, pianoforte virtuoso, and the great master F.J. Haydn, by borrowing from him a trio of Scots Songs whose folkloric inspiration and refined accompaniment form a perfect synthesis of the taste of the time for the exclusive pleasures of the city mingled with the revelry of country parties.
