Aria di Commedia: Pazzi Lazzi at NYU

ARIA DI COMMEDIA An Evening of Italian Renaissance Theater and Music What do you get when you put together a hungry servant, a know-it-all Latin speaking doctor and a string of sausages? You get Pazzi Lazzi in Aria di Commedia! You’ll giggle at Dottore’s “little problem” and the beautiful Flaminia’s long list of useless suitors. Enjoy classic Commedia dell’Arte tricks and double entendres with a few modern twists! Three professional actors, Chiara Durazzini, Emanuele Capoano and Maya Attia, interpret famous Commedia stock characters such as Arlecchino, Pulcinella, Balanzone and Colombina with their comedic troubles that result from typical human weaknesses such as envy, lust and greed. The show is produced in two original, independent scenes inspired by the classic Commedia scenarios of the early 1600s. John Tyson, New England Conservatory faculty and director of the renowned Renaissance music ensemble Renaissonics, will provide the musical accompaniment playing a variety of Renaissance instruments. For the past year, Pazzi Lazzi, a Boston based Commedia dell’Arte troupe, has both performed on stage and presented professional workshops for numerous universities, schools and cultural organizations.
