Being an island, UK has the advantage of being separated from the rest of Europe by the British Channel and having very rugged coastline, which proved helpful in the Second World War when although controlling almost the entire Europe, Nazi Germany didn’t managed to conquer The United Kingdom. This is also the reason UK invested a lot in it’s navy and considering it is located in the center of the world, this allowed them to control over a quarter of the planet in it’s peak year in 1922 with a lot of it’s wealth coming from it’s colonies. Surrounded by waters, UK also covers important oil and gas reserves which makes the UK less dependent on Russia’s natural resources as Germany is. Another reason is that 70% of England is located on The Great European Plain.
