Northbound

Due to all the wars and crises along the path from Japan to Europe, airlines had to reactivate the almost forgotten polar routes. Flying over these remote areas poses special threats, like erratic compasses, extreme cold temperatures and being very far away from the next landing possibility in case of unexpected problems. On the other hand, the route offers unusual views, like the Aurora Borealis we was able to record during my @Swiss International Air Lines flight over the Bering-, the Chukchi-Sea and eastern Alaska.
