Australia’s hidden underground town | WIDE

The small mining town of Coober Pedy in Australia has developed most of its life underground. Located in the middle of the Outback, “the capital of opal mining” reaches 50 degrees celsius in summer. Like the miners of earlier times, many of the current residents have chosen to live in the dugouts to better weather the heat and save energy consumption. Jimmy the runner, a well-respected former miner who settled in Coober Pedy from Greece, shows us around every corner of this peculiar underground neighborhood.
