Nocturne No. 1 in B Minor, Op. 2 “Saudade“ | Joshua Kyan Aalampour
This piece tells the story of a man longing for his lover. It starts out softly with the mute pedal all the way down, before exploding into an urgent fortissimo passage in the last few moments. This is supposed to be emblematic of time running out. The final chord is played with the mute pedal once again, signifying that time has finally run out. I had to record this barefoot, as my shoes were too wide to properly control the sustain and mute pedals simultaneously.
