The King has been given a damp official welcome in Nairobi as he begins a state visit to Kenya that threatens to be overshadowed by controversy over colonial-era abuses. Charles and Camilla were greeted at the state house by President Ruto and his wife, Rachel. The four-day trip is Charles’s first state visit to a Commonwealth nation since his coronation. The trip has become the focus of demands for reparations and an apology for Britain’s treatment of Mau Mau insurgents in the 1950s.
