“Godzilla takes on a powerful enemy, redesigned and reimagined for the Heisei Era! *** Be sure to turn on CLOSED CAPTIONS for English subtitles *** This fifth film in the Heisei Era introduces an all-new Mechagodzilla, this time appearing as a giant weapon designed to combat Godzilla. Set to coincide with the beginning of Godzilla’s 40th anniversary in Japan, the film follows the pattern of both redesigning old characters and introducing new ones as well. In addition to new characters (both human and monster), we see the introduction of the . (United Nations Godzilla Countermeasures Center) and their specialized team of humans known as G-Force. While the title may seem like a sequel, this film is in no way related to 1974’s Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Following the events of 1991’s Godzilla vs. King Ghidorah, the UNGCC reverse engineer the remains of Mecha-King Ghidorah to create a machine capable of fighting (and possibly killing) Godzilla. Dubbed Mechagodzilla, the machine is piloted by G-Force and supported by another vehicle called two machines can combine to create the all-new Super Mechagodzilla as well. In addition to Mechagodzilla, Super Mechagodzilla joins the characters of Rodan, Fire Rodan, and Baby Godzilla as either original creations or redesigned characters for the Heisei Era of movies. Whether it’s the exciting battles, the fantastic score, or even how adorable Baby Godzilla is, this film is a favorite amongst fans.
