Dam Destroyed, Monster Flash Flood & Landslide Washed Millions of Houses & Cars In the picturesque yet vulnerable state of Sikkim, nestled between Nepal and Bhutan in northeastern India, nature’s fury has been unleashed in the form of relentless natural disasters. Since October 4, an unyielding deluge has ravaged this region, turning the serene Teesta River into a monstrous force, causing devastating flash floods. These natural disasters have wrought havoc, leading to tragic loss and destruction. As reported by the National Emergency Response Center, the wrath of these natural disasters has been starkly evident since October 11. The grim toll includes 97 lives lost – 37 in Sikkim and 60 in West Bengal’s lower Teesta regions. The scale of these natural disasters doesn’t stop there. India’s national disaster management body paints a bleak picture: 78 people missing, 30 injured, and 3,773 displaced to 21 relief camps. A staggering 2,563 individuals have been rescued, with 87,300 citizens across 90 villages in Sikkim bearing the brunt of these natural disasters. Further intensifying the situation, severe flash floods and a glacial lake outburst event in northern Sikkim since October 4 have escalated the death toll. The statistics are heart-wrenching: since April 1, natural disasters across the country have claimed 2,496 lives, left 290 missing, and 1,994 injured. Nearly 114,000 houses have been damaged across 362 districts.
