Social Robot Providing Increasing Assistance in Response to User Needs

The robot interprets the user’s implicit social cues by monitoring their eye gaze and language. When the robot determines that the user is looking for help, it initially provides a minimal amount of assistance. The robot continues to monitor the user’s behavior and then gives more direct assistance to the user. The project was conducted by student researchers Isabelle Boucher and Nhi Phan at Franklin & Marshall College. The work also heavily relied on recent projects by Phyo Thuta Aung and Saad Mahboob.
