The Power Athlete Primal Movement Execution series continues with the most unappreciated, underutilized, misapplied of the Primals: the Lunge.
Every time an athlete takes a step forward (i.e. walking), they’re practicing how to move the pelvis and create torsion with the trunk through all planes of motion, a necessary component of athleticism!
Unfortunately, when it comes to teaching athletes to lunge properly, this very same unconscious competency is a hindrance. Asking athletes to consciously think about the execution is obsolete coaching. And relying on an athlete’s past training experience, assuming they know what they’re doing, sets everyone up for failure.
