Newborn saiga antelopes on the Astrakhan steppe

In their first two hours of life, saiga antelopes, still too weak to stand up and walk, remain motionless on the grasses of the steppe. This is rare footage of newborn foals in the wild. IFAW supported anti-poaching teams patrol the Stepnoy Wildlife Sanctuary in Russia. Saiga antelopes are classified as critically endangered on the IUCN red list of engangered species.
