Djokovic makes history with 24th Grand Slam title at US Open

Novak Djokovic made history on Sunday by winning his 24th Grand Slam singles title at the US Open, tying Margaret Court’s record and completing a remarkable comeback after missing last year’s tournament due to his vaccination status. The 36-year-old Serb defeated Daniil Medvedev, the world No.2, in a dominant performance that lasted two hours and 23 minutes. Djokovic won 6-3, 7-6 (5), 6-3, breaking Medvedev’s serve five times and hitting 38 winners to 31 unforced errors. Djokovic, who also won the US Open in 2011, 2015 and 2018, became the first man since Rod Laver in 1969 to win three of the four majors in a calendar year. He also extended his lead over rivals Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal, who have 20 Grand Slam titles each. “I’m very proud of this achievement. It’s been a long journey, full of ups and downs, but I never gave up on my dreams,” Djokovic said after the match. “I want to thank my team, my family, my fans and everyone who supported me along the way. This is for you.”
