Beauty Queen Dressmaker (1965)

Butlin’s Holiday Camp (?), Minehead, Somerset. Beauty contest at “a Minehead holiday camp“. Various shots of glamour girls parading on a podium. Great swimming costumes and hairdos. Shots of the audience and of the judges. One boy in the audience is smoking a joke pipe. The winner Tracey Ingram is given a sash and a kiss by a bluecoat with a nice big quiff (not a redcoat so perhaps not Butlin’s?). Jackie Kelk, one of the contestants, is also a dress designer. We see her on the catwalk and making a gorgeous jewel encrusted pink dress. “Who says beauty and business don’t go hand in hand?“ She is seen altering the dress as it sits on a dummy. She is then seen at her sewing machine at her home in Margate. M/S of Tracey modelling the dress which she will wear to the Miss International contest in Florida. Note: for search purposes alternative spelling Butlins. Although not told this is Butlin’s Holiday Camp, it probably is as Pathe shot many stories there. I love Jackie’s house. A real 196
