📃 Оригинальное описание:
Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso, founders of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES) confederation, have written to the United Nations Security Council that Ukraine is supporting terrorism in their territories.
In late July, Ukrainian representatives faced backlash for publicly professing support for terrorists k*lling Malian Armed Forces. This led Senegal to summon the Ukrainian ambassador, who also represents Ukraine in the neighbouring countries. Then, Mali and Niger officially cut diplomatic ties with the Eastern European country.
Kiev said the claim is unfounded. However, the Ukrainian Defence Ministry intelligence agency’s press representative stated on Ukrainian national television that Ukraine provided intelligence to a Mali-based rebel group. Plus, according to an unnamed Western security source speaking with the AFP news agency, Ukraine is communicating with the rebels.
This is not the first time that Mali has attempted to bring a country before the UN. In 2022, Mali wrote a letter to the UNSC claiming France had provided weapons and intelligence to terrorist groups and illegally operated drones and other aircraft in the country. The letter stated, ‘These flagrant violations of Malian airspace were used by France to collect information for terrorist groups operating in the Sahel and to drop arms and ammunition to them.’ Unfortunately, France is a UNSC member, and the issue appears to have gone unheard.
Will the AES confederation convince the United Nations to take action against Ukraine? Let us know in the comments.
