BUCK-TICK - Diabolo (Misemono Goyaga Kurete Kara〜Show After Dark〜 2021)
Cayce has no explanation in this song, but it was in translations to Satan . It’s about the line with Blue Velvet, of course (Saran have this easter egg too).
“Blue Velvet“ was originally the title of a 1950’s pop song, written by Bernie Wayne and Lee Morris and recorded by Tony Bennett (and re-recorded by numerous other artists.) David Lynch subsequently used the title Blue Velvet for his 1986 film starring Kyle MacLachlan, Isabella Rossellini, Dennis Hopper and Laura Dern. The film, known for its film noir and surrealist themes, has become a cult classic and is widely regarded as one of Lynch’s finest works.
From me - google the covers of this movie!
For my Russian ear, this song (Coyote too) sounded like a gypsy song for the first time, huh. Especially with all these amplifications of the “Rrr“ consonants in Blue (which sound almost like “tppru“ here, in the sense that “tpppru, my horse!“ in japanese blue velveteen is buruu berubetto, but apart from that it is still understandable that Sakurai did not make these enhancements by accident (because Sakurai softens Rrr to L, where he needs a softer sound (i mean different songs), here it is obviously not needed). And the song is really tavern, which includes gypsy songs (and other folk, romances, etc. retro).
We also have information about the name of the song itself.
Diabolo is a juggling toy in the form of two similarities of cones, connected by their vertices, which rotates, is thrown and caught by means of a rope, which is tied to two sticks, which the player holds in both hands.
The idea for the game most likely originated in China (having been invented there around the 12th century; now its original version is called the “Chinese yo-yo“), where the top of the toy was made of two hollow cylinders of metal or wood and connected to a rod , often large in size; the toy made a loud sound when spinning and was used by peddlers to attract customers. It was brought from China by missionaries to Europe, and a version of the game known as “the devil on two sticks“ may have been known in England at the end of the 18th century: Lord McCartney is credited with improving the toy.
But the toy reached its real distribution in France in 1812, where its upper part was called “le diable“, the sonorous sound it made when spinning - bruit du diable - was its characteristic feature.
Which undoubtedly fits perfectly with the circus theme of the album, as does the ambiguity of the title.

Lyrics translation (C) This is NOT Greatest Site, Cayce.
Come, come over, come and have a peep in
Tonight, ladies and gentlemen, I present to you, Baby!
Every inch dripping with love—enjoy!
Dance to the songs, mysterious liquor
Light up that vulgar thing
About to burst beneath the table
Just the way you like it
To your dreams, to your transience,
Let’s make a toast! Look, the angels are crying
Ah, covered always in blood
Demon King’s wings are blue velvet, baby
Pointed tail and swarming ladies
On a sleepless night
To your dark, to that darkness of yours
Let’s make a toast, till the last of our blood dries up
To your dreams, to your transience,
Let’s make a toast! Look, the angels are crying
Until the tears dry
Adieu, goodbye
To your dark, to that darkness of yours
Let’s make a toast, with the last of our blood
To your dreams, to your darkness
Cheers!
