“Matsya“

Matsya The Ocean Goddess As we humans lose our connect to the earth, our natural resources are depleted, our forests are disappearing, our waters are contaminated and animals and plants struggle to survive. Indian culture traditionally revered nature and gave it a place of importance, just like many other indigenous cultures of the world. One story that reiterated the oneness of all creation is that of Matsya, a tiny fish that grew to reveal the truth of the universe to King Satyavrata. When the world was going through a period of dissolution, the king found a tiny fish that grew to the size of many lakes. This fish saved the king and taught him the truth of oneness. Once we begin to see ourselves in everything around us, we begin to empathise with all life.  Matsya, is a reminder to see ourselves in everything around us.
