Video by Vadim Sherbakov Momentum

@vadim_sherbakov Momentum is my latest, experimental, macro short film shot on entirely Canon EOS R5 in 8K. To create liquid art shots we used different inks, alcohol, soaps, and a variety of mixture of household chemicals. The idea for this film was to shoot it in 8K and test the capability of both new Canon R5 camera. We used EF 100mm f/ Macro IS USM, and Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 IS Macro STM to shoot this film. The famous Canon issue with the overheating was addressed beforehand and we develop a workflow we called “shoot-download-cool down” that help us streamline the shooting process. The whole shooting took about 5 days and another 2 weeks for post-production. Our main challenge wasn’t the overheating as we thought it would but editing the 8K footage since our main computer wasn’t as capable as we thought it would. We are pretty thrilled with the quality of the 8K shots and LOG color profile, and surprisingly, it took less effort to CC and grade those shots, since the actual image was very good to start with. I use Davinci Resolve 17. Pretty much all the color was left untouched and some minor CC and grading were applied and no significant color manipulation has been necessary since all colors were done right in the camera. As is in a previous film we shot some BTS of the action and used it in film at the beginning. For the music soundtrack, I tune to talented Yehor Litovchencko a sound designer who created an awesome atmospheric track to bring to life the footage. Special thanks to Canon Russia for providing us with a camera and lenses.
