A Havening Guided Meditation for Loving Your Inner Child with Dr. Kate Truitt

This guided exercise is adapted from Dr. Kate’s book “Healing in Your Hands: Self-Havening Exercises to Harness Neuroplasticity, Heal Traumatic Stress, and Build Resilience.“ Order your copy today! In this guided exercise for loving your inner child, Dr. Kate Truitt begins by inviting us to welcome in the gentle havening touch or rest our hands on our heart space. Dr. Kate asks us to drift back over the course of our life and find that young version of ourself living inside us. We all have an inner child who frequently interacts with us, telling us what we need or needed that we didn’t receive in the past. Once we’ve identified our internal child, Dr. Kate invites us to move into deeper relationship with them. What does their hair look like? Their eyes? How do they sit or stand? As we deepen our relationship with them, we welcome in soothing breathwork. We then imagine that next to the child is a bubble, which encompasses the feelings of fear and anxiety that show up today. What thoughts come to us in the here and now? Where did they come from? When did we start telling ourselves these stories? As we visualize these thoughts and stories that we tell ourself today, they fill up the bubble. We then step back and look at the larger view of this young self. What does their smile look like? What is their energy? Dr. Kate asks us to return our attention to the bubble and realize that these were things that were taught to our inner child. We did not come into the world believing these things. She then asks us to imagine that we are holding a pin in our hand, and pop that bubble. These are not our truths.
