Flood threats remain in Far North Queensland following ex-tropical Cyclone Jasper

Flood warnings remain in place for parts of Far North Queensland after Tropical Cyclone Jasper. More than 500 millimetres of rain was recorded in the Daintree and Mossman River catchments in the 36 hours to 9pm on Thursday. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue today across the region north of Cairns. At least 18 people were evacuated from their homes due to flooding, and more than 40,000 were left without electricity. There have also been reports of homes and businesses being looted in towns, while residents shelter from the weather.
