Кони Беспредела (The Mares Of Reckless Abandon)

Synopsis: This animation is loosely based on legendary Russian songwriter Boris Grebenshchikov’s song ’Mares Of Reckless Abandon’ and visually inspired by Russian folk art and Slavic runic symbols. This surreal short tells the story of one man’s posthumous journey through the dreamlike memories of his life after a bump in the road changes his course. Is this what a Russian purgatory might look like? Paganism and Christianity, animalistic archetypes, transition and transformation, a forest of chthonic creatures, and birdlike angels sitting on the Kremlin wall. As the man descends into the dark forest of chthonic creatures, he goes through various transformations and finally meets his fate.
