China launches new remote sensing satellite

China sent a new remote sensing satellite into space from the Taiyuan Satellite Launch Center in north China’s Shanxi Province on Friday. The Gaofen-5 01A satellite was launched aboard a Long March-2D carrier rocket and successfully entered its planned orbit. It will improve China’s hyperspectral observation capacity in areas such as environmental protection, topography, meteorology, agriculture and disaster alleviation.
