KOREA’S DIPLOMACY AMID RECORD YEAR OF GLOBAL ELECTIONS

2024년 글로벌 정치 지형 변화와 한국 외교 전망 Welcome to Wednesday’s edition of Issues and Insiders. I’m Min Sunhee. We are looking at a record-setting year for elections this year and for more on this reality I have Professor Min Jeong-hun from the Korea National Diplomatic Academy. Professor Min it’s a pleasure. I also have Kwon Soa with us. Soa it’s great to have you here. 1) Soa, I believe over 60 countries will be hosting either presidential or general elections this year. Let’s start with this reality. 2) Professor Min, what would you say are the broader diplomatic implications of broad changes in political landscapes across the world? 3) Soa, here in Korea, there is much interest over who will take the reins over the White House as the future course of the Yoon administration’s ties with Washington depends on it. That being said, what are the prospects of former President Donald Trump returning? 4) Professor Min, how does a possible Republican presidential victory look to affect the trilateral security framework among South Korea, Japan and the U.S.? 5) Soa, perhaps another variable to the trilateral security initiative is fate of the Kishida administration in Japan amid its plunging approval rating. Do tell us more about this reality and the reason behind it. 6-1) Professor Min, again, how does a potential shift in leadership in neighboring Japan look to affect the trilateral security framework? 6-2) Professor Min, what do you foresee with regard to bilateral ties between Seoul and Tokyo under a new Japanese leadership? 7) Moving forward, Soa, I hear Chinese President Xi Jinping has called on his envoys to create a “diplomatic iron army.“ What exactly does he mean, and what can you share about the context behind his comments? 8) Professor Min, there is talk about a possible trilateral summit among South Korea, Japan and China this spring. What are your prospects of such a summit, and if it does occur, what issues do you believe should top these talks? 9) Meanwhile Soa, Russia is scheduled to hold its presidential race in March, and ahead of this election, I hear there have been interesting poll results regarding President Vladimir Putin’s military operation in Ukraine? 10) Professor Min, what are your prospects regarding South Korea’s ties with Russia this year? All right. #Global #Diplomacy #Election #세계 #글로벌 #정치 #외교 #선거 #Arirang_News #아리랑뉴스 📣 Facebook : 📣 Twitter : 📣 Homepage : 2024-01-03, 14:30 (KST)
