Slunks - Loop Hero Medley/Cover (ft. Victor Jones)

Blinch released one of my favorite Halloween-synth/rock/metal soundtracks of the year with Loop Hero. Much like the game, the soundtrack dips into different genres and I knew I had to some something with it once I heard it. Blinch does an outstanding job stylizing the OST towards the game’s atmosphere. My goal was to take the main old-school Loop Hero sound, surround it by full instrumentation, and mix it with live guitar/drums for a fun time. If you’ve never heard of Loop Hero, check it out here: This was a huge multi-month project which I started way back in late March. 3 months later, here we are with a completed version. Huge thanks to the amazing Victor “Tbone“ Jones (and his stache) for his wonderful assistance on this one. We worked hard on it. So hard, that we have a full breakdown of the production timeline below for anyone wanting to nerd out on how much time/effort goes into making an almost solid 9 minutes of material. We hope you enjoy! March: -OST surveyed, tracks picked, general flow/song selection edited together April: -Instrument/sound design has been mostly completed. Good mix of chiptune-ish “Loop Hero“ style lead and fuller surrounding synths -Song selection and flow finalized -Transcription (90% by ear) begins - had to use software to help with CosTemp/WheelFaith -Guitar parts are decided; transcribed into notation/tablature and sent to Victor for practice (required hours of learning tab software) May: -Slunks - Overall song generally completed (audio); awaiting guitar recording -Video production begins: Drums are completed during this time; keyboard Akai parts are 75% done June: -Guitar audio meet n’ record #1 (early June) and #2 (mid-June) are done. All guitar recordings captured. A few parts were cut due to time. -Inserting the guitar audio, editing, and overall mixing/mastering -Slunks’ video shooting is fully complete and all parts recorded and video editing begins (and completed; leaving gaps for Victor’s cut-ins) -Victor’s video shooting complete and sent to me for further editing (on 6/30) -Editing 100% complete, including several “polish“ runs on the video and audio to ensure things are synced up proper and such -Uploaded to YouTube
