Inside A Futuristic Apartment Lobby Designed By International Architects

Located on Mermaid Beach, Queensland, 272 Hedges Avenue Pedestal by Contreras Earl Architecture is a futuristic apartment lobby and complex and the architecture firm’s first commission in Australia. Inspired to create a futuristic apartment lobby and complex that gave hope to new iterations of architecture, Contreras Earl Architecture has created the building to rejuvenate the architectural façade of Mermaid Beach. Embracing technology, nature and evolution, the structure is reflective of its surrounds. Rising 44 storeys above its beachside setting, the residential apartment building exudes a sophisticated front and intimate interior that flows throughout all its levels. Facing the ocean, 272 Hedges Avenue Pedestal’s exterior form is shaped like a rolling wave, while the interior design has been influenced to look like it has been shaped by the winds and seas. Through its monolithic form, the building strikes a formidable shape upon the coastline, however, its interior is warm and welcoming to both guests and residents. After choosing to design the exterior out of stainless steel, Contreras Earl Architecture faced the challenge of finding the right fabricator within Australia. In answer, the firm found a company in the Netherlands which shipped the panels over to be placed over the façade by Australian builders in a short manner of time. The interior of the futuristic apartment lobby and complex imbues a seamless base where floors blend into ceilings and vice versa, while alcoves have been designed into the floor and finished with concealed lighting that washes across the wall surfaces. Continuing these forms up to the second floor where the wellness zone has been placed, Contreras Earl Architecture focuses on providing the futuristic apartment lobby and complex with a place in which residents can find respite. Consisting of a hammam steam room, treatment rooms, gym and 15-metre heated pool, the amenity level caters to residents’ senses through atmospheric experiences and practices. Beneath vaulted ceilings, the amenity level flows out onto an outdoor terrace that overlooks the seaside parklands, adding a deeper layer to the structure’s calming aesthetic. Creating something that is unique and different, Contreras Earl Architecture has designed the residential apartment building to respond to the site’s context, environment and constraints. In its final form, 272 Hedges Avenue Pedestal showcases what a combination of many minds can achieve when faced with a futuristic apartment lobby and complex design. 00:00 - Introduction to the Futuristic Apartment Lobby 00:49 - The Studios First Australian Commission 01:12 - The Concept of The Design 01:38 - Responding to the Beachside Location 02:37 - A Modern Material Palette 03:41 - The Intimate Health Focused Space 04:22 - Rewarding Aspects For more from The Local Project: Instagram – Website – Print Publication – Hardcover Book – The Local Project Marketplace – To subscribe to The Local Project’s Tri-Annual Print Publication see here – Photography by Peter Sexty.
