Music for Healing - Mei-lan & Ali Pervez - Painted Veil
Many songs that Ali and I record together begin outside of the studio. This particular song came through when we were making dinner one night - Ali pulled out the harmonium and started playing this melody. We immediately knew to go into the studio and that was how “Painted Veil“ was birthed.
Inspired by an Urdu poem, this is a deep, reflective piece. Here are some translations that we want to share with you:
“aaya meri mehfil mein, gharat gar hosh aaya“: As consciousness invaded my gathering, all caution was thrown to the wind.
“wo khud liye bethe the agosh e tavajjo main“: They sat, enveloped in the embrace of attention.
“Behosh hi acha tha, na haq mujhe hosh aaya“: Unconsciousness was better, unjustly came my awareness.
I feel it’s a soulful contemplation on the fleeting nature of awareness - and captures the essence of seeking escape from the harsh truths of reality.
It is our intention as you listen that it may inspire some of those deeper emotions that lay sometimes hidden within.
So grateful to share healing music with you.
All our love,
~Mei-lan and Ali Pervez
