The Rugby Trainer Fast Hands Passing Drill, The Lift Drill

Here is a great fast hands passing drill with 2 parts to it. this is a Small area, represents attacking down the 15meter channel, I used a 10meter area. making sure you have a ’Touch Line’ to make sure the 4th attacker stays in field. Part 1: Take Space, place the poles to be staggered away from the attackers. attacker 1 and 2 start at the pole attacker 3 and 4 start 2 meters away and inline from 1st pole. on the go attacker 1 and 2 find their depth then attacker the poles staying square and ’Lifting’ the ball up in the air to the next player. As each pole is further away the attack needs to speed up and attack the space between them and the poles but still run straight, reserve space and have soft but fast hands. Winger catch the ball at Full PACE! to get away from any tracking defenders. Part 2: Hold Feet straight away turn around and go into part two. poles will be staggered towards the attackers making it a harder pass. attacker 1,2 & 3 Start at the poles. on the go, everyone find their own depth so they can catch, stay square and ’Lift’ the ball to the next player. the attack needs to work hard off the ball to find their Depth to help exploite the space on the wing. Winger catch the ball at Full PACE! to get away from any tracking defenders. these 2 drills are working on the ’Lift’ pass but applying them in 2 different scenarios. one which is about killing the Defenders (part 1) and another which is holding feet to get to the edge (part 2) I use the word ’Lift’ in this scenario instead of pass as you want to put the ball into the space but under enormous amount of pressure so when releasing the ball you want to finish with your hands up, hence ’Lift’, this will help the next player to adjust to the pass Try this Drill add it to your attack play as it will help you massively in your game. before I go, remember to keep that ball away from your chest when you catch 👊🏉
