Erkin Koray - Yağmur (1971)

Erkin Koray, the Turkish singer-songwriter and guitarist, is also one of the major figures in Turkish psychedelic music and Anatolian Rock by the 1960’s & 70’s. Koray also has an important role in Turkish music history in terms of inventing “electric bağlama”, a traditional Turkish musical instrument, which can be heard on many of Koray’s albums with its unique sound. Published in 1967, “Kızları da Alın Askere” played a vital role in Erkin Koray becoming known among a wider mass of people. In 1968, he participated in the “Golden Microphone” competition, hosted by the newspaper “Hürriyet”. Erkin Koray’s songs “Meçhul“ and “Çiçek Dağı”, which took 4th place in that competition, were later on released by a record company, ultimately reaching a large circulation of 800 000 pieces.
