CFD Simulation of a Shark on Cruise Control

If sharks lived in a two-dimensional world, they would be in serious trouble. The resulting drag forces would cause these amazing smooth swimmers to struggle a lot more. Here is a DNS 2-D simulation of uniform flow over a shark on cruise control! Top: Vorticity magnitude. Bottom: Dye colors which helps us understand mixing dynamics. Reynolds number based on Shark vertical thickness: 2,000. The shark profile was a derivative of ply data provided by John Burkardt at University of Florida (~jburkardt/data/ply/).
