AETHYRIEN - Berserkr (The Henbane Experience) A berserker (Old Norse: berserkr) was a legendary Viking warrior thought to be immune to iron and fought in a brutal trance-like state. It has been debated for years whether or not berserkers consumed some sort of plant or mushroom before battle to obtain their brutal behavior. The Amanita muscaria mushroom was thought to be the source of their madness, however recent studies suggest henbane (part of the nightshade family) may be more believable. The flower produces the same effects written in the old texts describing these fierce men. Mix in the references of taking on the primal behaviors of beasts such as bears and wolves, the Berserkers were not exactly the good guys either.
